Last week, three influential CT-Alpha members were recognized with chapter awards created by the SigEp National fraternity. The awards were made with the purpose of giving brothers assurance that their years of hard work had not gone to waste. These key CT-A members were granted the Excelsior Cup, the J. Edward Zollinger Outstanding Senior Award, and the Volunteer of the Year Award! One additional brother was also recognized for his extraordinary achievement of being accepted for the highly-selective Tragos Quest to Greece. Congratulations brother Will Servino!
Brother Matthew Wendling won the Excelsior Cup award for his dedication to revamping CT Alpha’s financial system. He not only streamlined the organization of the chapter budget and increased its transparency, but he also increased annual dues collection averages to over 90 percent after difficult times during the COVID pandemic. The Excelsior Cup is given to chapters who show significant improvement in chapter operations, and with Matt’s hard work during his term as VP Finance, the recipient of this award may as well have been uncontested.
Brother John Donnelly won the J. Edward Zollinger Outstanding Senior Award. This award is given to each district of SigEp chapters. John was chosen based on nominations from our chapters counselors, Alumni, and Volunteer Corporations. John’s dedication to the chapter over the past four years, serving as chapter president as well as serving for his country, makes this award much deserved. John’s resume is incredible, as he maintains a high GPA in UConn’s school of Engineering while having maintained a history of SigEp involvement. Last summer, he was selected for the Tragos Quest to Greece, and he said the experience was “life-changing”.
CT Alpha alumni Jerry Dallas won the Volunteer of the Year award. This award is given to a volunteer who has maintained a significant positive impact on CT-Alpha or the AVC over a long period of time. CT-A has Jerry to thank for its strong, consistent growth over recent years. With Jerry’s hard work serving as a CT-A volunteer, no one else is more deserving of this award.
Brother Will Servino has been extremely impactful to CT-A in his years of membership and service. Will has always been a positive influence on the brothers of this chapter, and maintains an incredible 3.9 GPA as an Engineering major in his junior year. Will has been dedicated to his chapter since day one, and has just finished a term as Vice President of Recruitment. He spoiled the chapter in his final semester on the Executive Board, recruiting over 30 new members, many of which have already started participating in committees within the chapter. Only a handful of SigEps across the country are chosen for the Tragos Quest to Greece, and Will is now one of them. It is an understatement to say that CT Alpha is extremely proud of Will’s hard work both in school and within the chapter, and all of the sacrifices that he has made for his brothers. CT-A wishes Will the best this summer in Greece, and thanks him for increasing the prestige of the chapter!
Finally, the new member class of Spring 2023 has been initiated! Connecticut Alpha’s new class consists of 11 new SigEps that the chapter is extremely excited to welcome to CT-Alpha! Huge shoutout to Zach O’Connor and the Recruitment Committee for bringing in quality new members that will add great value to the fraternity for years to come!
Way to go gentlemen, #VDBL.
