In true UConn Husky tradition, the brothers of Connecticut Alpha capped off a dominant fall semester on the basketball court taking home the UConn Greek Basketball Association championship in October. We finished the season with an impressive 12-1 record coming out on top over a field of 12 fraternities.
Our roster was loaded with UConn Husky practice players and former high school basketball players. The run culminated in a decisive 10-point victory during the GBA title game. Brothers Charlie Joiner ‘28 and Quinn Gregorie ‘28 were named the game’s co- MVP’s for their standout performances.

“These are the guys we play basketball with every Friday together,” Joiner said. “We knew we were the best team every time we stepped on the court because we had the most chemistry from playing together.”
Beyond the title and bragging rights, the championship represented something larger. The team’s achievement was a byproduct of Connecticut Alpha’s strides to be the biggest and the best fraternity on campus. The GBA title is tangible evidence of our success at UConn.
“We continue to prove that we are the best in the classroom with our GPA’s, it was cool to show how we hold ourselves to that standard in all of our endeavors,” Joiner said.
The championship also guaranteed us a spot in the GBA National Tournament. The event features fraternities from across the country. CT Alpha was SigEp’s lone representative. The four-day event was held in Memphis, Tennessee during Thanksgiving break.
Making the trip possible was a full chapter and alumni effort. Through a GoFundMe campaign, the chapter was able to raise over $3,000, while the Alumni and Volunteer Corporation pledged an additional $1,600 in support. The combined fundraising allowed for 15 brothers to make the trip to Memphis and represent SigEp on the national stage.
“It was cool to represent the chapter outside of UConn,” Gregorie said. “We had so much support behind us, and it meant a lot to everyone who got to travel down there.”
The GBA championship and national tournament experience reinforced CT Alpha’s commitment to excellence. We continue to set the standard at UConn of being balanced men.
