The Connecticut Alpha Executive Board, along with four rising leaders, traveled to Parsippany, N.J. for the annual Carlson Leadership Academy.
At Carlson, the brothers of CT Alpha had the profound opportunity to hone their leadership skills through various workshops and activities. The event gathered brothers from all over the northeast to participate in strategic planning sessions and engage in team-building exercises, preparing them to help guide their chapters into the future. Workshops were run by alumni and volunteer facilitators, who shared their experiences from the professional world as well as their time as an undergraduate. Attendees also got the chance to network and collaborate with brothers and alumni from all over the northeast.
“Carlson is a great opportunity for our chapter, providing insight to help our executive boards better serve their chapter,” CT-Alpha President Alex Reilly said. “Each individual who attends learns invaluable skills to develop as leaders and as professional adults. As a two-time attendee, I can say that the experience builds upon itself and has formed my own leadership style today.”
During the weekend’s closing ceremony, Grand President Bradley C. Nahrstadt bestowed awards to several chapters, for their achievements over the past year. CT Alpha took home three of these honors. First, for their commitment to the Balanced Man Program, and their compelling and individualized opportunities to develop members throughout their time in college, they were awarded Donald C. McCleary Award for Excellence in Member Development. Two of the awards were presented to the CT Alpha Alumni and Volunteer Corporation. For their outstanding service with tangible results to an undergraduate chapter, they received the AVC Operational Excellence Award. The AVC also received the Sunago Award for Excellence in Mentorship, for fostering an exceptional connection and collaboration among their volunteers and with undergraduate members. In attendance for these awards were AVC President Van Augur ’20, AVC Secretary Steven Chaneles ’83, Steven Jason ’83, and AVC Director Jonathan Wharton (Stevens Renaissance). The support and guidance of the alumni present allowed for both valuable insight on workshops and a fulfilling award ceremony
The brothers of CT Alpha would like to thank all the alumni and volunteers who made this possible, and will apply their lessons and experiences from the weekend to their terms on the E-Board and beyond. VDBL!
